Knowledge Gateway Search Tips

The Knowledge Gateway's search function is powered by Endeca, a unique information access platform that helps people find, analyse and understand information in ways never before possible.

Because of Endeca’s unique Guided Navigation feature, even simple keyword searches can give you comprehensive and more relevant results.

Endeca has a number of filters and refinement options available as part of it Guided Navigation features.

These include being able to sort on metadata elements such as author, format and date published as well as refining results based on related terms and concept clusters.

Refine Your Results

These filters allow you to further narrow your search once Endeca has returned results for the keyword/s or phrase/s you have entered.

Selecting a filter will perform a search within your current search results.

You can add and delete filters in any order to further manipulate your search results.

Related Terms and Related Concepts

Related Terms and Related Concepts filters are produced by Endeca’s Guided Navigation function, which extracts common terms and phrases from the search results displayed and groups them accordingly.

Selecting a filter from the Related Terms and Related Concepts will perform a search within your current search results.

You can add and delete Related Terms and Related Concepts filters in any order to further manipulate your search results.

Auto-correction and “Did you mean?”

Endeca will auto-correct a search when a user submits a term that the search engine has determined is likely misspelled. The spelling is automatically corrected and results are displayed for the corrected search.

Endeca also has a “Did you mean…?” feature that offers suggestions when a user submits a term that the search engine has determined may have a more relevant alternative to the one entered. Typically, these suggestions may not be a misspelling. “Did you mean…?” suggestions will be offered when Endeca finds close matches to the entered search term that yield higher result counts that the term itself.

Stemming

Endeca’s stemming feature means that the search engine will automatically include plurals of entered terms as part of a search.
